About this event
On Wednesday, Davenport City Council is discussing its response to a bill working its way through the Iowa State Legislature to compel all local law enforcement to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal immigration-related agencies.

This is, in essence, federalizing local law enforcement. This is not a partisan description – this is precisely the way one of the bill’s main backers described it last year when he dropped a similar bill:
‘“In the end, as I consider all the comments I heard from law enforcement, concerns about manpower and the fact that this would federalize, in a way, our local law enforcement, the decision was that it was not a good idea, and we did not move forward,’ [Rep. Steven Holt, R-Denison] said.”

As federal immigration officials just killed a second US citizen in Minnesota (and the third this year) on top of other deaths of non-citizens, please show up and voice your concerns.
